Devotional: Obedience in the Small Things

Sometimes we think obedience to God has to be something big.

A big calling.
A big sacrifice.
A big moment that changes everything.

But often… God is simply asking us to be obedient in the small things.

The quiet nudge to say a prayer for someone.
The moment you choose patience instead of frustration.
The whisper in your heart telling you to forgive.
The decision to trust God even when you don’t fully understand what He’s doing.

These moments may feel small to us.

But to God, they matter.

Throughout scripture, we see that faithfulness in the small things leads to greater things. When we respond to God's gentle direction in our everyday lives, we grow closer to Him. Our hearts become softer, our faith becomes stronger, and our trust begins to deepen.

Sometimes obedience looks like:

Showing kindness when it's easier to stay silent.
Standing up for what’s right with grace.
Letting go of control and saying, “God, I trust You.”

And sometimes obedience is simply pausing in the middle of a chaotic day and saying:

"Lord, guide my steps."

God doesn't expect perfection from us.

He simply asks for a willing heart.

A heart that listens.
A heart that trusts.
A heart that says yes — even in the small things.

Because those small moments of obedience?
They are often the very things God uses to shape our lives in the most beautiful ways.

Take a moment to ask yourself:

Is there something small God has been placing on my heart lately?

Maybe it’s reaching out to someone.
Maybe it’s letting go of something that no longer serves your faith.
Maybe it’s trusting God with a situation you keep trying to control.

Whatever it is, remember this:

God sees every step of obedience, even the quiet ones.

And those small steps are often where our faith grows the most.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for guiding my steps each day. Help me to listen closely to Your voice, even in the smallest moments. Give me the courage to follow where You lead and the humility to trust Your plan. Teach me that obedience is not always about big actions, but about a faithful heart that is willing to say yes to You.
