Remain in My Love
John 15:10–12 (NIV)
“If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
There is something deeply personal about these words.
Not distant. Not harsh. Not demanding in a heavy way.
But tender, intentional, and full of invitation.
Jesus isn’t asking for perfection.
He is inviting us into relationship.
“Remain in My love.”
Not visit.
Not perform.
Not strive.
Remain.
That word alone changes everything.
So many of us are living in a season of love — learning how to love others, learning how to receive love, and maybe most importantly, learning how to love ourselves the way God does. Friendship, family, relationships, community… all of it feels deeper when your heart is growing and healing at the same time.
And yet, love can be complicated.
We’ve been hurt by people we trusted.
We’ve outgrown friendships we once held tightly.
We’ve felt misunderstood, overlooked, or taken for granted.
We’ve poured out and wondered if anyone was pouring back in.
But Jesus shows us a different kind of love.
A love that stays.
A love that chooses you daily.
A love that doesn’t abandon when things get messy.
A love that corrects gently and holds firmly.
A love that doesn’t ask you to earn it.
When He says, “Remain in My love,” He is offering stability in a world full of shifting emotions and fragile connections.
And then He says something even more challenging:
“Love each other as I have loved you.”
Not love people when it’s easy.
Not love only the people who love you back.
Not love when you feel like it.
But love with patience.
With grace.
With humility.
With forgiveness.
With consistency.
This kind of love changes friendships.
It changes families.
It changes how we speak.
How we listen.
How we show up.
How we walk away when needed.
How we set boundaries without bitterness.
And maybe the deepest part of this passage is the promise tucked inside it:
“That My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
God isn’t trying to drain your joy.
He’s trying to fill it.
True joy doesn’t come from perfect relationships.
It doesn’t come from constant validation.
It doesn’t come from being liked by everyone.
It comes from staying rooted in His love.
Because when you remain in Him,
your love becomes healthier,
your heart becomes softer,
your discernment becomes clearer,
and your peace becomes steadier.
This season of love you’re in — whether it’s about friendship, healing, connection, or growth — isn’t accidental. God is shaping the way you love and the way you receive love. He’s teaching you to love without losing yourself. To give without emptying yourself. To care without compromising your peace.
And it all begins with remaining in Him.
Jesus,
Teach us how to remain in Your love when life feels confusing, when relationships feel complicated, and when our hearts feel tired. Heal the places that have been hurt. Strengthen the places that are growing. Teach us to love others the way You love us — with patience, truth, grace, and sincerity. Let Your joy fill our hearts until it overflows into every connection in our lives. Amen.
