When Your Faith Feels Dry: A Devotional for the Quiet Seasons 🤍
Scripture:
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God…” — Psalm 42:2
Reflection:
Sometimes faith feels full.
Prayer comes easily.
Worship feels alive.
You feel close to God.
And then there are the other seasons.
The quiet ones.
The dry ones.
The seasons where prayer feels hard.
Reading feels routine.
You still believe… but you do not feel the closeness you once did.
If you are there today, I want you to know something:
Spiritual dryness does not mean God left.
It does not mean your faith failed.
It does not mean you are broken.
Even David cried out from dry places.
Even strong believers walked through wilderness seasons.
Dry places happen.
Sometimes life gets loud.
Sometimes we become tired.
Sometimes responsibilities fill our minds.
Sometimes our hearts are simply weary.
But dryness is not the end of the story.
Because dry ground still waits for rain.
Isaiah 44:3 says:
“For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground…”
God does not avoid dry places.
He meets us there.
Maybe today the invitation is not to do more.
Not read ten chapters.
Not force feelings.
Maybe it is simply:
“Jesus, I miss You.”
“Jesus, I am here.”
“Jesus, help me.”
Small prayers still reach Heaven.
Your quiet faith still matters.
Your tired heart is still loved.
Jesus,
My faith feels tired. My heart feels dry.
But I still want You.
Meet me in this place.
Water the parts of me that feel empty.
Help me seek You again without pressure, fear, or shame.
Teach me that even in silence, You are near.
Amen.
