Learning to Sit With God Without Asking for Anything
Sometimes the most powerful moments with God are the quiet ones.
For a long time, I realized something about my relationship with God. I would usually go to Him when I needed something… when life felt heavy, when things didn’t go my way, or when I was searching for answers. And while God absolutely invites us to bring our needs to Him, I started wondering what it would look like to just sit with Him — without asking for anything.
Just presence.
Just faith.
Just trust.
There is something deeply peaceful about learning to sit with God without turning the moment into a list of requests. It shifts the focus from what we want to what He is already doing in our lives.
I began to notice how easy it is for worldly things to take over our minds. Stress, expectations, plans that don’t unfold the way we imagined. In those moments, it is tempting to run to God only when things feel out of control. But faith is also about believing in His will even when we don’t fully understand it.
It’s about trusting that God is working, even in the silence.
For me, learning to sit with God has looked simple. Sometimes I listen to worship music or a faith podcast. Other times, I just sit quietly in silence. No requests. No agenda. Just letting the moment exist.
And if I’m honest, it hasn’t always been easy.
My mind still wanders. Thoughts come rushing in about everything I should be doing, worrying about, or figuring out. I catch myself trying to clear my mind and focus again. But I’ve learned that even those moments are part of the process. God doesn’t expect perfection. He simply welcomes our presence.
The beauty of sitting with God is realizing that you don’t always have to say anything. Just being there matters.
It’s like sitting with someone you love. You don’t always need words to feel connected. The same can be true with God.
Sometimes faith grows the most in the quiet.
This week, I want to invite you to try something simple.
Set aside just a few minutes to sit with God.
Put your phone away.
Turn on worship music, listen to a podcast, or simply sit in silence.
Don’t ask for anything.
Just be present.
Let your heart rest.
Trust that even in the stillness, God is working.
And maybe, in those quiet moments, you’ll feel something you weren’t expecting… peace.
Sometimes our thoughts can feel overwhelming, but faith reminds us that we don’t have to carry everything alone.
