When Rest Feels Like You're Falling Behind (But You're Not)

There’s something I want to be honest about.

Sometimes I feel guilty resting.

Not because I’m lazy.
Not because I don’t care.

But because in the back of my mind I hear this quiet voice saying:

You should be doing more.
You should be reading the Bible more.
You should be doing better.

And when those thoughts creep in, I start to question myself.

Am I doing enough?
Should I even be encouraging others if I feel like I’m still figuring things out myself?

Maybe you’ve felt that way too.

Maybe you’ve had moments where you love God deeply, but life is busy, your mind is tired, and you don’t always show up the way you think you “should.”
Maybe you miss a day of reading scripture.
Maybe you skip a devotional.
Maybe you feel like your faith should look stronger than it does.

And then the guilt sneaks in.

But lately, I’ve been thinking about something important.

What if God never asked us to carry that guilt?

What if the pressure we feel is something we placed on ourselves?

Because the truth is… God already knows us.
He knows our hearts.
He knows our struggles.
He knows when we are trying.

And something else I’ve been learning lately is this:

Sometimes rest is not failure.
Sometimes rest is faith.

Sometimes resting is the moment where we stop trying to prove ourselves and simply remember that God is still holding everything together.

There are days I wish I read my Bible more.
There are days I wish I prayed longer.

But there is also something I know deep in my heart.

God placed this blog on my heart for a reason.

Not because I’m perfect.
Not because I have it all figured out.

But because I’m growing.

This space — Growing Faith — isn’t about someone who has arrived.
It’s about someone who is learning, day by day, what it means to walk with God.

And maybe that’s the encouragement someone else needs too.

Because faith isn’t a performance.

It’s a relationship.

And relationships don’t grow through pressure… they grow through honesty.

So if today you’re feeling tired…
If you feel like you should be doing more…
If you feel like you’re falling short…

Take a deep breath.

God isn’t standing over you with a checklist.

He’s walking with you.

Even on the quiet days.
Even on the tired days.
Even on the days when all you can do is whisper, “God, I’m trying.”

And maybe that’s enough for today.

Maybe rest is exactly where God wants to meet you.

Heavenly Father,

Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough.
I want to grow closer to You, but life gets busy and my heart feels tired.

Remind me that my faith journey isn’t about perfection.
Help me release the guilt I place on myself and remember that You love me even in my quiet moments.

Teach me to rest in Your presence, not run from it.

And when I feel like I’m falling behind, remind me that You are still walking beside me every step of the way.

Amen.
