Summary
In Exodus 31, God chooses Bezalel and Oholiab to help build the tabernacle and everything needed for worship. God doesn’t only call them—He equips them with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and craftsmanship.
God also reminds Israel to keep the Sabbath as a sign of their covenant relationship with Him. The chapter ends with God giving Moses the two stone tablets of the covenant, written by the finger of God.
Observations
1. God equips the people He calls.
2. Our gifts can be used for God’s purpose.
3. Rest is part of obedience too.
Life Application
You do not have to accomplish everything through your own strength.
If God has placed something on your heart, ask Him to give you the wisdom, creativity, patience, and ability you need to carry it out.
And while you’re working toward what God has called you to do, remember that rest matters too. Sometimes faithfulness means working—and sometimes faithfulness means stopping, resting, and trusting God.
Questions
- What gifts or abilities has God placed in me that I could use for His purpose?
- Is there something God has called me to do that I’ve felt unqualified for?
- Am I making enough room in my life to rest and spend time with God?
Memory Verse
Exodus 31:3 (NIV)
“I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.”
Encouragement
You may not feel completely prepared for everything God is leading you into—and that’s okay.
God knew exactly what the tabernacle required, and He knew exactly who needed to help build it.
The same God who gives an assignment can also give the wisdom and ability needed to complete it.
You don’t have to know everything before you begin. Keep walking with Him and allow Him to teach you along the way.
Father, thank You for the gifts and abilities You have placed inside of me. Help me recognize the ways You want to use them for Your purpose. When I feel unqualified, remind me that You are able to give me wisdom, understanding, and strength. Help me work faithfully while also remembering to rest in You. May everything I do bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
