Exodus 9 — God’s Power Cannot Be Ignored
Summary
Exodus 9 continues the plagues God sends on Egypt as Pharaoh refuses to let the Israelites go.
In this chapter, God sends a plague on Egypt’s livestock, painful boils on people and animals, and then a devastating hailstorm.
Once again, God makes a distinction between the Egyptians and His people. The livestock belonging to the Israelites are protected, showing that God is fully aware of who belongs to Him.
Even after seeing this, Pharaoh still refuses to surrender.
Before the hail comes, God gives Pharaoh and the Egyptians a warning. Anyone who believes God’s word can bring their servants and livestock inside for protection.
Some listen.
Others ignore the warning.
The hail comes exactly as God said it would.
Pharaoh finally admits that he has sinned and asks Moses to pray for the storm to stop. But once the storm ends, Pharaoh hardens his heart again.
Exodus 9 shows us that God is patient, powerful, and merciful, but His warnings should never be ignored.

Life Application
Exodus 9 asks us to think seriously about how we respond when God speaks.
Sometimes God gives us warnings through His Word, through prayer, through circumstances, or through wise people in our lives.
The question is whether we listen.
The Egyptians who believed God’s warning about the hail acted on it.
Their belief changed what they did.
Faith should do the same for us.
When we truly believe God, it should affect the way we live.
This chapter also challenges us to look at repentance.
Do we only tell God we are sorry because we want the problem to disappear?
Or are we genuinely willing to change?
God wants more than temporary promises.
He wants our hearts.
Questions
- Is God warning or correcting me about something that I have been ignoring?
- When I say I trust God, do my actions show that I really believe Him?
- Is there an area where I have apologized to God but still need to make a real change?

“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
Encouragement
God’s power is never out of control.
Even in a chapter filled with judgment, we can see His mercy.
He warns people before the hail comes.
He gives them an opportunity to respond.
He protects His people.
And He continues giving Pharaoh opportunities to change.
If God has been speaking to your heart, do not ignore Him.
His correction is not rejection.
Sometimes God lovingly warns us because He sees something ahead that we cannot see.
Trust His voice.
Follow His direction.
And remember that the God who sees everything happening around you also sees you.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your patience, Your mercy, and Your power.
Help me to listen when You speak.
If You are warning me, correcting me, or asking me to change something in my life, give me a willing heart.
I do not want to be stubborn or only turn to You when I am facing consequences.
Teach me true repentance.
Help me not only say that I trust You, but live like I trust You.
Thank You for seeing me, protecting me, and guiding me even when I cannot see what is ahead.
May my life bring honor to Your name.
