Leviticus 6 – Living with Integrity, Making Things Right, and Keeping the Fire Burning

Leviticus 6 – Living with Integrity, Making Things Right, and Keeping the Fire Burning

 Summary

In Leviticus Chapter 6, God continues giving Moses instructions about sacrifices, forgiveness, and the responsibilities of the priests.

This chapter teaches us about honesty, accountability, obedience, and the importance of maintaining a faithful relationship with God.

The chapter begins by addressing situations where someone has been dishonest, stolen something, deceived another person, or refused to return something that belonged to someone else.

God makes it clear that wrongdoing against another person is also a sin against Him.

When someone recognizes their wrongdoing, they are instructed to return what they took, repay what they owe, and add an additional twenty percent.

They must also bring a guilt offering to the Lord.

This teaches us that forgiveness and responsibility go hand in hand.

God doesn’t want us to simply acknowledge our mistakes and continue living the same way. He wants us to change our behavior and make things right whenever possible.

The chapter then shifts to instructions for the priests regarding the burnt offering, grain offering, and sin offering.

One of the most meaningful instructions is that the fire on the altar must never go out.

The priests were responsible for keeping it burning continually.

Every morning, they had to add wood to the fire and carefully maintain the altar.

This required consistency, attention, and obedience.

For us today, this can serve as a beautiful reminder that our relationship with God also requires daily attention.

We cannot expect our faith to grow if we never spend time with Him.

Prayer, reading Scripture, worship, and obedience help us remain spiritually focused.

The chapter reminds us that following God isn’t only about what we do during difficult moments. It’s also about how we live when everything seems ordinary.

What this teaches us today: God cares about our honesty, our treatment of others, and our daily commitment to Him. He wants us to live with integrity, make things right when we fall short, and continue strengthening our relationship with Him.

 Observations

1: Our Treatment of Others Matters to God

2: Keeping the Fire Burning Requires Daily Attention

3: Obedience Matters Even in the Small Details

Life Application

Here are five ways we can take what we’ve learned and apply it to our everyday lives.

  1. Choose honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable. Whether you’re at work, home, or dealing with others, practice telling the truth and doing what’s right.
  2. Take responsibility for your mistakes. When you realize you’ve hurt someone or done something wrong, don’t ignore it. Acknowledge your actions and make things right whenever possible.
  3. Keep your spiritual fire burning. Make time for God each day, even if it’s only a few minutes of prayer, reading Scripture, or sitting quietly in His presence.
  4. Be faithful in the little things. Remember that obedience isn’t always about big moments. Sometimes it’s about making the right choices in ordinary situations.
  5. Don’t allow a difficult season to pull you away from God. There may be days when you feel spiritually tired, but that doesn’t mean you should give up. Continue seeking Him, one day at a time.

Today’s Reminder: A strong relationship with God isn’t built in one moment. It grows through daily faithfulness, honesty, prayer, and a willingness to keep showing up.

Questions

Take a few moments to think about these questions as you study Leviticus Chapter 6.

  1. Is there an area of my life where God is calling me to be more honest or take responsibility?
  2. What am I doing each day to strengthen my relationship with God and keep my faith growing?
  3. Have I been overlooking small opportunities to obey God because they don’t seem important?

You can write your answers in your Bible study journal or spend some quiet time talking to God about them.

Remember, Bible study isn’t only about gaining knowledge. It’s also about allowing God’s Word to change the way we live.

Memory Verse

Leviticus 6:13 (NIV)

“The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.”

 Little Encouragement for Today

Maybe you’ve been feeling spiritually disconnected lately.

Maybe you started the year wanting to read your Bible every day, but life became busy.

Maybe you’ve missed a few days of prayer or haven’t spent as much time with God as you wanted.

I want to remind you of something.

You can begin again today.

You don’t have to wait until Monday, next month, or the beginning of a new year to reconnect with God.

You can open your Bible right now.

You can whisper a prayer while making your morning coffee.

You can thank Him while driving to work.

You can spend a few quiet minutes with Him before going to bed.

Growing closer to God doesn’t always require a perfect schedule or a long Bible study session.

Sometimes it simply begins with choosing to make room for Him in your day.

Leviticus 6 reminds us of the importance of consistency and obedience.

The priests had a responsibility to maintain the fire on the altar every day.

And while our worship today is different because of Jesus Christ, we can still learn from their dedication.

Don’t become discouraged because your spiritual journey doesn’t look like someone else’s.

God sees your heart.

He knows when you’re trying.

He knows when you’re struggling.

And He invites you to continue seeking Him.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another opportunity to spend time in Your Word.

As I read Leviticus Chapter 6, I’m reminded of how important honesty, obedience, and faithfulness are to You.

Lord, please search my heart and reveal any areas of my life where I need to make changes.

If I’ve been dishonest, careless with my words, or unfair toward someone, help me recognize my mistakes and take responsibility for them.

Give me the humility to apologize when I’m wrong and the courage to make things right whenever possible.

Father, I also ask that You help me remain consistent in my relationship with You.

There are days when life becomes overwhelming.

Sometimes I get distracted by responsibilities, worries, and everything happening around me.

And sometimes, without even realizing it, I allow those things to take my attention away from You.

Please forgive me for the times I’ve placed other things before our relationship.

Help me make time for prayer, Scripture, worship, and quiet moments in Your presence.

Lord, when my faith feels weak, strengthen me.

When I feel discouraged, remind me of Your promises.

When I become distracted, gently guide my heart back to You.

Teach me to honor You not only through my words but also through my everyday actions.

Help me choose honesty when lying would be easier.

Help me choose kindness when I’m frustrated.

Help me choose patience when things don’t go according to my plans.

And help me remain faithful even when nobody else sees the small choices I’m making.

Father, I don’t want my relationship with You to exist only when I need something.

I want to know You more deeply, trust You more fully, and continue growing in my faith every day.

Thank You for Your endless patience, mercy, and love.

Continue shaping me into the person You’ve called me to be.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Read It Yourself

I encourage you to open your Bible and read Leviticus Chapter 6 for yourself.

Don’t Have a Bible?

If you don’t have a Bible, I would love to buy you one!

I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to read God’s Word and grow closer to Him.

If you don’t own a Bible and would like one, please send me an email. I would be more than happy to purchase one for you.

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin your journey with God. All you need is an open heart and a willingness to learn.

No one should have to miss out on reading God’s Word simply because they don’t have a Bible.

Let’s continue growing in faith together, one chapter at a time.
