Leviticus Chapter 3 — The Fellowship Offering

Leviticus Chapter 3 — The Fellowship Offering

Summary

Leviticus 3 explains the instructions God gave the Israelites for presenting a fellowship offering, also called the peace offering.

Unlike the burnt offering in Chapter 1, which was completely burned on the altar, the fellowship offering was connected to peace, gratitude, and communion with God.

The Israelites could bring an animal from the herd or flock, either male or female, as long as it was without defect.

The person presenting the offering would place their hand on the animal's head before it was sacrificed. The priests would then sprinkle its blood against the sides of the altar.

Certain portions of fat, along with the kidneys and part of the liver, were burned on the altar as an offering to the Lord.

God also instructed the Israelites not to eat the fat designated for sacrifice or any blood.

Throughout the chapter, we see how seriously God wanted His people to approach worship.

But there's something deeper here.

The fellowship offering reminds us that peace with God is precious and that our relationship with Him deserves gratitude, reverence, and intentional worship.

Through Jesus Christ, we now have the blessing of being reconciled to God, not through repeated animal sacrifices, but through His sacrifice on the cross.

 Observations

1. God Desires Fellowship with His People

2. God Deserves Our Best, Not Our Leftovers

3. True Peace Comes from Being in a Relationship with God

 Life Application

Here are five ways we can take what we've learned and apply it to our everyday lives.

1. Spend time with God just because you love Him. Not every prayer needs to be a request. Sometimes simply saying thank You is enough.

2. Practice gratitude daily. Thank God for the blessings you sometimes overlook, including another day of life, food, shelter, and His faithfulness.

3. Give God your undivided attention. Set aside a little time without your phone, television, or other distractions.

4. Make peace with others when possible. Forgive, apologize when necessary, and seek to live peacefully with the people around you.

5. Remember what Jesus has done for you. We don't need to earn peace with God through sacrifices. Jesus has made reconciliation possible through His death and resurrection.

Today's reminder: You don't have to wait until your life is peaceful to spend time with God. Come to Him right in the middle of your worries, responsibilities, and uncertainties.

 Questions

Take a moment to reflect on these questions. You can write your answers in a journal or simply spend some quiet time thinking about them.

1. What does the fellowship offering teach us about God's desire for a relationship with His people?

2. Are there areas of my life where I need to become more intentional about giving God my time and attention?

3. How can I practice gratitude and experience God's peace even during difficult seasons?

 Memory Verse

Leviticus 3:16 (NIV)

"All the fat is the LORD's."

 Encouragement for Today

Sometimes we get so busy trying to accomplish everything on our to-do lists that spending time with God becomes another task to complete.

We read a chapter, say a quick prayer, and move on with our day.

I've learned that building a relationship with God isn't about checking another box.

It's about learning to welcome Him into every part of our lives.

The beautiful thing is that we don't need an elaborate routine or hours of free time to connect with Him.

We can pray while making coffee, thank Him on our way to work, read a few verses before bed, or spend a quiet moment reflecting on His goodness.

God isn't looking for an impressive performance.

He wants our hearts.

So today, don't focus on making your time with God perfect. Focus on making it genuine.

You're not just reading through the Bible. You're building a deeper relationship with the One who loves you.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for allowing us to grow closer to You through Your Word.

As we study Leviticus Chapter 3, remind us that You desire a genuine relationship with us.

Forgive me for the times I've allowed distractions, worries, and daily responsibilities to take priority over spending time with You.

Teach me to approach You with gratitude, sincerity, and a willing heart.

Lord, help me find peace in Your presence instead of searching for it in things I cannot control.

Thank You for sending Jesus to make a way for us to be reconciled to You.

Help me honor You through my choices, my words, and the way I treat others.

May I never take Your love, grace, or presence for granted.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
