Summary
Exodus 14 is one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible. The Israelites have finally left Egypt, but Pharaoh changes his mind and sends his army after them.
Soon, the Israelites find themselves trapped. The Red Sea is in front of them, Pharaoh’s army is behind them, and there seems to be absolutely nowhere to go.
Fear takes over, and the people cry out to Moses. They begin questioning why they ever left Egypt.
But Moses tells them:
“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today.” — Exodus 14:13 NIV
God had not brought them this far to abandon them.
The Lord tells Moses to raise his staff and stretch out his hand over the sea. God sends a strong wind, divides the waters, and the Israelites walk through the Red Sea on dry ground, with walls of water on both sides.
The Egyptian army follows them into the sea, but once the Israelites are safely across, God causes the waters to return. Pharaoh’s army is defeated.
By the end of the chapter, Israel sees the power of the Lord and begins to trust Him and Moses.
What looked like a dead end became the place where God displayed His power.
Observations
1. God may lead us somewhere that does not make sense at first.
2. Fear can make us forget what God has already done.
3. God can make a way where there appears to be no way.
Life Application
There will be moments in life when you feel surrounded.
The problem may be behind you.
The unknown may be in front of you.
And you may have no idea what your next step should be.
Exodus 14 reminds us that God does not need us to see the solution before He begins working.
Sometimes our responsibility is simply to trust Him, obey what He tells us to do, and keep moving forward.
You may be standing in front of something today that looks impossible.
Do not assume that because you cannot see a way through, there is no way through.
God sees what you cannot see.
The Red Sea did not open before the Israelites arrived.
It opened when they needed God to make a way.
Questions
1. Is there an area of my life right now where I feel trapped or unsure of what to do next?
2. When fear comes, do I remember what God has already brought me through, or do I immediately assume the worst?
3. What would trusting God and moving forward in obedience look like for me today?
Memory Verse
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14 NIV
Encouragement
If you feel like you are facing your own Red Sea right now, remember this:
God is not limited by what looks impossible to you.
You do not have to know how everything is going to work out.
You do not have to have the whole plan.
You only need to know the One who does.
The same God who made a path through the sea is still capable of making a way through situations you cannot solve on your own.
Keep trusting.
Keep praying.
Keep following Him.
Your situation may look impossible from where you are standing, but God can see the other side.
Father, thank You for reminding me that nothing is impossible for You. When I feel afraid, trapped, or unsure of what comes next, help me remember how faithful You have already been. Teach me to trust You even when I cannot see the way forward. Fight the battles that I cannot fight on my own and give me the courage to keep moving when You tell me to move. I know that You are greater than every obstacle standing in front of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
