Summary
Exodus 39 focuses on the making of the sacred garments for Aaron and the priests.
The Israelites used the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, fine linen, gold, and precious stones exactly as God had instructed. They made the ephod, the breastpiece, the robe, the tunics, the turban, and the other priestly garments.
One phrase keeps appearing throughout this chapter:
“As the Lord commanded Moses.”
That repetition is important.
The people were not doing things their own way. They were following God’s instructions carefully.
By the end of the chapter, all the work of the tabernacle was completed. The people brought everything to Moses, and he inspected the work.
When Moses saw that they had done everything just as the Lord commanded, he blessed them.
Exodus 39 reminds us that there is beauty in obedience, faithfulness in finishing, and blessing in doing what God asked us to do.
Observations
1. Obedience Means Following God’s Instructions
2. God Can Use Your Gifts for His Purpose
3. Finish What God Gave You to Do
Life Application
Exodus 39 is a good reminder to ask yourself:
Am I doing what God actually asked me to do, or am I doing what feels easier?
Obedience can be simple, but it is not always easy.
Maybe God has been nudging you to forgive someone.
Maybe He has been telling you to start something.
Maybe He has been telling you to stop something.
Maybe He has asked you to be consistent in prayer.
Maybe He has placed a responsibility in your hands that you are tempted to walk away from.
You do not have to know every detail of what comes next.
You just need to be faithful with the next step.
And if God gave you something to finish, ask Him for the strength to keep going.
Questions
- Is there something God has already told me to do that I have been delaying?
- What gift or ability has God given me that I can use for His purpose?
- Is there something I started that God is asking me to faithfully finish?
Memory Verse
Exodus 39:42-43 (NIV)
“The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.”
Encouragement
You may be in a season where you are tired of doing the same thing over and over.
Keep going.
Faithfulness is not always exciting.
Sometimes it looks like showing up again.
Praying again.
Trying again.
Serving again.
Choosing obedience again.
You may not feel like you are making progress, but God sees every step of obedience.
Do not quit simply because the process is taking longer than you expected.
If God called you to it, ask Him to help you finish it.
There is purpose in your obedience.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that obedience matters.
Help me to follow Your instructions even when I do not fully understand what You are doing.
Give me the discipline to stay faithful and the strength to finish what You have placed in my hands.
Show me how to use the gifts You have given me for Your glory.
Keep me from comparing my calling to someone else’s.
Help me focus on what You have asked me to do.
When I feel tired, distracted, discouraged, or tempted to give up, remind me that You are with me.
Give me a willing heart that says yes to You.
May my life reflect the words:
Just as the Lord commanded.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
