Exodus 6 — God Reassures Moses
Summary
Exodus 6 begins with God reassuring Moses after Pharaoh made life even harder for the Israelites.
Moses had obeyed God, but instead of things immediately getting better, the situation became worse. God reminds Moses that He is still in control and that Pharaoh will eventually let the Israelites go because of His mighty power.
God tells Moses again that He is the Lord and reminds him of the covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
He has heard the groaning of the Israelites.
He sees their suffering.
And He has not forgotten His promise.
God tells Moses that He will bring the Israelites out of Egypt, free them from slavery, redeem them with His power, take them as His own people, and bring them into the land He promised.
Moses shares this message with the Israelites, but they are so discouraged and exhausted from their harsh treatment that they cannot receive what he is saying.
God then tells Moses to go back to Pharaoh and tell him again to let the Israelites go.
Moses doubts himself once more and questions why Pharaoh would listen to him when even the Israelites would not.
The chapter also gives the family line of Reuben, Simeon, and Levi, eventually leading to Moses and Aaron. This reminds us that God chose ordinary people from a real family and gave them a specific purpose in His plan.
Observations
1. God does not forget His promises.
2. Discouragement can make it hard to hear hope.
3. God can use us even when we feel unqualified.
Life Application
There may be seasons when you obey God and instead of things getting easier, they seem to become harder.
That is exactly what Moses experienced.
He obeyed God.
He went to Pharaoh.
And afterward, the Israelites suffered even more.
Moses could not understand why.
But Exodus 6 reminds us that a difficult season does not mean God’s promise has failed.
God was still working.
The Israelites simply could not see the full picture yet.
You may not understand what God is doing in your life right now either.
You may be praying and wondering why nothing seems to be changing.
You may even feel like things have become harder.
But do not judge God’s faithfulness by one difficult moment.
Your current situation is not the end of the story.
Keep trusting who God is, even when you cannot yet see what He is doing.
Questions
- Is there an area of my life where I have started doubting God because things became harder instead of easier?
- Am I allowing discouragement to become louder than God’s promises?
- Where might God be asking me to trust Him even though I feel unqualified or afraid?
Memory Verse
Exodus 6:6
“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.’”
Encouragement
God sees what you are carrying.
He hears the prayers you have prayed.
He knows when you are tired.
And He has not forgotten you.
The Israelites could not yet see how God was going to rescue them, but God already knew exactly what He was going to do.
Their suffering was real, but it was not the end of their story.
The same can be true for you.
What you see right now is only one part of the story God is writing.
Keep holding onto Him.
Keep trusting His character.
Keep remembering His promises.
God is still working, even when you cannot see it yet.
Father God,
Thank You for reminding me that You never forget Your promises.
Sometimes when life becomes difficult, I get discouraged and wonder if You are still working.
Help me remember that what I see right now is not the whole story.
When I feel tired, overwhelmed, disappointed, or afraid, remind me of who You are.
Help me trust Your timing even when I do not understand it.
Give me the courage to obey You even when I feel unqualified.
Thank You for hearing my prayers, seeing my struggles, and remaining faithful through every season.
Strengthen my faith and help me hold onto Your promises.
