Exodus 7 — God Shows His Power
Summary
In Exodus 7, God prepares Moses and Aaron to go before Pharaoh again. God tells Moses that Pharaoh’s heart will be hardened, but that this will give God the opportunity to show His power through signs, wonders, and judgment in Egypt.
Moses is 80 years old and Aaron is 83 when they obey God and return to Pharaoh.
When Pharaoh asks for a miracle, Aaron throws down his staff and it becomes a snake. Pharaoh’s magicians imitate the sign, but Aaron’s staff swallows theirs, showing that God’s power is greater.
Still, Pharaoh refuses to listen.
God then tells Moses to meet Pharaoh by the Nile River. Aaron stretches out his staff over the water, and the Nile turns to blood. The fish die, the river smells terrible, and the Egyptians cannot drink the water.
Even after seeing this judgment, Pharaoh’s heart remains hard.
Observations
1. God’s power is greater than every counterfeit
2. Repeatedly resisting God can harden the heart
3. God can use difficult situations to reveal who He is
Life Application
Exodus 7 reminds us that God is still in control even when people refuse to cooperate with His plan.
Moses and Aaron obeyed God, but Pharaoh still said no.
That did not mean they had failed.
Sometimes we obey God and expect everything to change immediately. But obedience does not always bring instant results.
Our responsibility is to remain faithful.
God is responsible for the outcome.
If you are doing what God asked you to do but nothing seems to be changing yet, do not assume that God is absent.
Keep obeying.
Keep trusting.
Keep moving forward.
God may be working in ways you cannot see yet.
Questions
- Is there anything God has been asking me to do that I have been resisting?
- How do I respond when I obey God but do not immediately see the result I hoped for?
- What situation in my life could God be using right now to show me more of His power?
Memory Verse
Exodus 7:5
“And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.”
Encouragement
Do not become discouraged just because something has not changed yet.
Moses stood before Pharaoh again and again.
Pharaoh resisted.
The situation looked stubborn.
But God had already declared what He was going to do.
What God promises is not cancelled by resistance.
People cannot stop God’s purpose.
Delays cannot stop God’s purpose.
Obstacles cannot stop God’s purpose.
Stay faithful even when you cannot see the ending yet.
God is still working.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that You are powerful, faithful, and completely in control.
Help me to listen when You speak and obey You even when I do not understand what You are doing.
Protect my heart from becoming stubborn or resistant to Your correction.
When I face situations that seem impossible, remind me that nothing is greater than You.
Give me the faith to keep going even when I do not see immediate results.
Help me trust Your timing, Your plan, and Your power.
Use every situation in my life to draw me closer to You and help me know You more deeply.
