Leviticus 17 God Calls Us to Honor the Gift of Life

Leviticus 17 God Calls Us to Honor the Gift of Life

Summary

In Leviticus 17, God gives the Israelites instructions about sacrifices and the importance of blood.

God commands His people to bring their sacrifices to the proper place of worship instead of offering them wherever they choose. He also forbids consuming blood because blood represents life.

This chapter reminds us that life belongs to God, worship should honor Him, and forgiveness comes through the sacrifice He provides.

Today, we no longer need animal sacrifices because Jesus gave His life for our sins once and for all.

Observations

1. God Deserves Our Obedience (Verses 1–9)

2. Life Is Precious to God (Verses 10–12)

3. Jesus Is Our Ultimate Sacrifice (Verse 11)

Life Application

Sometimes we want to follow God on our own terms. We may choose what feels comfortable instead of what He is asking us to do.

But following God requires trust, obedience, and surrender.

Here are three ways to apply this chapter:

  • Choose obedience: Follow God’s Word even when it challenges you.
  • Value life: Remember that every day is a gift from God.
  • Be thankful for Jesus: Never forget the sacrifice He made for your forgiveness.

Remember: Obedience isn’t always easy, but God is worthy of our trust.

Questions

  1. Am I following God’s instructions or only doing what feels comfortable?
  2. How can I show more gratitude for the life God has given me?
  3. Do I truly appreciate the sacrifice Jesus made for my sins?

Memory Verse (NIV)

Leviticus 17:11

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.”

Today’s Encouragement

Maybe you’re in a season where God is asking you to be obedient, even when you don’t understand everything.

Keep trusting Him.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. Just continue taking steps of faith.

Jesus already made the greatest sacrifice for you. You don’t have to earn His love or forgiveness.

Keep walking in faith. God sees your heart and your willingness to follow Him.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the precious gift of life and for sending Jesus to sacrifice Himself for my sins.

Help me walk in obedience, even when I don’t understand Your plans. Teach me to trust You, honor You with my choices, and never take Your love and mercy for granted.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
